Making Your Story Glow: Teen Writing Group
August 1-5 (ages 12-14)
Monday – Friday: 4 – 5:30pm Virtual
Writing can look like a solitary practice – but it doesn’t have to be! Writing can be a fun collaboration! Many writers have a community of trusted readers, editors, and fellow writers to develop their work. In this workshop, students will work together to help each other write polished personal essays. For each session, students will critically read personal essays, forge their ideas through writing prompts, with a writing game here and there. They will also learn to edit, give encouragement, and constructive feedback to each other’s work. To add that extra flair, we will weave research practices into the essay and students will finish the week with a completed piece they can feel proud of, but more importantly, the skills and confidence to write their stories.
Capped at 14 writers
Price per student: $250
If a family has more than one student, every other sibling/friend/relative will be half off
Young Professionals: Writing in the World
August 8-12 (ages 15-18)
Monday – Friday: 5-7pm Virtual
Writing in the World is for teens who are passionate about writing and ready to learn the nuts and bolts of working in the field professionally. Students can work with any genre that calls to them. Not only is this workshop meant for young writers to hone their expertise, but to be open to other forms of writing as well. Each day students will spend time formulating their prose and learning to provide constructive feedback for each other’s work. Several of the sessions will include discussions with professionals from journalists and podcasters, to novelists, editors, and publishers, who will present their daily life and practice. Through these engaged discussions, students will have the opportunity to begin building their own visions of how they can manifest a professional writing life that is exciting and fulfilling to them. Parents, friends, and family are invited to a reading of the student’s culminating work on Friday, August 12 from 6-7pm.

Storytellers in the Magic Forest
August 8-12 (ages 5-9 years old)
Monday – Friday: 9am – 2pm (meet in Prospect Park)
Calling all adventurers who are interested in stories, animals, plants, bugs, and, of course – magic! There’s a Jabberfish in the pond! There’s a Brunking Bark Monster in the woods! Join us in exploring the mysteries of Prospect Park in this one-week long summer camp about fun, stories, and nature! We will write silly poems. We will go on scavenger hunts and make up the WILDEST stories in the world all to learn about the animals, plants, and weather in the park. Our adventures will be translated into a creative field guide to Prospect Park, so at the end of week students will have a book of their experience that they can take home, and maybe even take back out again. In case they forgot the true name of that Howling Boolamp in the swamp. Snacks will be provided. Bring your own lunch.
This opportunity is capped at 10 students.

True learning is the ability to tell a story. These projects allow the students to understand and express their findings in the world by researching and then integrating through creation – whatever they’re interested in!
